AI visibility audit
An AI visibility audit checks whether your brand is mentioned, which pages are cited, and which competitors appear for buyer questions. Start with a free BrandPresence snapshot, then use the checklist below to separate a visibility gap from a result that needs more evidence.
Method
Count the successful retained samples in which the brand appears. A missing mention is not automatically a diagnosis.
Check whether a provider-returned source points to the measured site. Citation and mention are reported separately.
See which catalog-backed entities recur around the same buyer questions, without guessing an official domain.
Inspect the sources returned with each answer and distinguish recurring evidence from a one-off sample.
Connect answer gaps to concrete crawl findings and affected URLs before deciding what deserves investigation.
Compare repeated API observations so disagreement and partial provider coverage remain visible.
Practical checklist
Use this checklist with BrandPresence or your own evidence log. The goal is a repeatable record that helps you decide what to investigate next.
Include category, alternatives and buying questions for the same audience, language and market. Keep branded questions separate from unbranded discovery questions.
Save provider, model, prompt version, settings and date. Distinguish API responses from manually observed consumer interfaces.
Keep the answer and returned sources for each sample. Count failures separately so an unavailable provider is not recorded as a missing brand.
Record whether the answer names your brand and whether it links to your own domain. Review competing brands and third-party source domains independently.
Check whether important pages are crawlable, have a clear canonical URL, and explain the product with supportable facts. Connect a technical finding to an affected URL.
Prioritize a concrete gap supported by retained evidence. Keep the next measurement comparable and report changes without claiming that timing alone proves causality.
For Google Search, eligibility still depends on foundational SEO and helpful content. Google’s official guidance for generative AI search explains the requirements. An audit records evidence; it cannot promise inclusion in an AI answer.
Illustrative example: you request nine samples for one fixed question and provider configuration. Six succeed and three fail. Four successful answers mention your brand; two cite your domain.
The denominator is the six successful samples. Keep results grouped by question and provider before summarizing them. This small example demonstrates the calculation, not a reliable estimate of your whole market.
Continue with ongoing LLM visibility monitoring, or review monitoring plans and usage limits.
Buyer question
Observed answer roles and source coverage stay attached to each provider and repeated sample.
